It’s a brand new year, and instead of focusing on getting glowing skin or exfoliating away 2016, we’re making a resolution to have more fun with beauty. Why just stick to the basics every day? Bright colourful makeup can be one of the best ways to put some life into your look, especially if the rest of your outfit is buried beneath winter layers.

We love Annabelle’s affordable vegan and cruelty-free products, so you can expect to see a monthly look with them this year! First up, we decided to channel one of our favourite gemstones into a dreamy lavender eye makeup tutorial. The stone of sweet dreams and wisdom, add some extra sparkle to your eyes with the glittery magic of the amethyst!

What we used //

CC Perfecting Base

Annabelle Single Eyeshadows in: Cloud, Violet, and Aura.

Stay Sharp Black Metal Metallic Eye Liner

Lash Launcher Supernova Mascara

Start by applying a thin even layer of primer all over the face and eyelids, this will keep your quartz-coloured powders from going anywhere.

Apply the darkest shade, Violet, to the outer corners of the eyes and into the crease of the lid. Use Cloud in the middle of the lid and blend well with Violet. Use Aura as the lightest shade to highlight the upper lid and inner corners of the eye.

Use a smaller brush to draw a thin line of Cloud along the outer bottom edge of the eye.

Now use the Self-sharpening eyeliner to draw on a cat eye, the primer will keep the shadow in place while you slide the pencil over. For a more bold look try the Metallic Amethyst pencil.

Finish it off with the Lash-launcher Supernova Mascara and you’re ready to go!

Almost everyone I’ve spoken to agrees 2016 was a garbage year, and I’m honestly so excited to kick off a fresh new set of 365 days. True, it’s been the New Year for a few days now, but since I decided to get a head start on my life makeover (which you can read about here) I decided to take a little break before getting into the superficial stuff. Like hair.

A new year almost always means a new look for me, so I started with my hair. As I mentioned, I’m taking a break from bleaching, but that doesn’t mean I can’t keep having fun with my locks! I headed back to Jaymi at Good Day Hairshop for a whole wack of highlights and dreamy golden colour to prep for my adventures in LA. Outfit-wise I scooped up the COOLEST Sunday Somewhere sunglasses from the new Her Majesty’s Pleasure Boutique, the perfect forest green jumbo tote from The Stowe and some incredible new essentials from Revolve (yes, a sparkly blush dress with stars was an essential!)

I’ve also been big into building up my tattoo collection over the past month, thanks to the help of the oh so talented Alex Royce Tattoo. This guy seriously makes stick n’ pokes so painless you could take a nap, and I can’t stop going back! In the span of two weeks I got an orca whale (my all-time favourite animal), a gem, and a pearl in an oyster. I couldn’t love them more.

And finally, speaking of love and tattoos, have you noticed my brows lately?! I had the absolute pleasure of connecting with Nicole of BrowsxBianca, and after two appointments she had microbladed me to my best brow dreams. I’m not going to lie – it HURT, like a lot, but not having to draw in my brows every day has been well worth two hours of discomfort, and I couldn’t be happier with the improvement.

Interested in trying microblading but always thought it was too expensive? Nicole and I have a little surprise for you guys! Simply mention you heard about her from me and you’ll get 25% OFF from now until February 15th! How’s that for a great kick off to 2017 and say goodbye to 2016?

Okay, so we’ve put together a lot of fun gift guides this year, but we thought why not throw one last list together featuring all our favourite pretty little things (aka. beauty products, candles, and things that generally smell delicious). They make great stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, and add ons to those gifts that are missing that one last special thing.

From candles to mascara, this guide is for those who covet the finer things in life and delight in details!

Herbivore Botanicals // All natural, cruelty-free, and full of magical powers, this brand uses some of our favourite ingredients like coconut and rose to make truly dreamy bath, body, and skincare products.

dsc_7165

Annabelle // Colourful and fun, this cosmetics line is super affordable and perfect for filling spaces in stockings. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free, which makes it a must on our list.

dsc_7173

Linneas Lights // I swear these are the strongest smelling candles on the face of the planet. They also come in delightful holiday scents like “Golden Plum” and “Pepperberry” which we can’t get enough of in the office right now.

dsc_7159

Bite Beauty
This lip-specific brand opened a shop down the street a few months back and we seriously can’t get enough. Their Christmas packaging is almost too pretty too open, and all of their products are technically edible they’re so natural!

dsc_7146

Smith and Cult // We’ve had a crush on Smith and Cult’s gorgeous nail polish collection for ages, and now that they’ve added eye makeup and lipgloss to the list we’re 100% hooked. Bonus points for all the glittering gold on the packaging!

dsc_7183

Tocca // “I have too many candles” said no one EVER. Tocca makes great little minis in seemingly endless scents that will cover everyone left on your list.

When two of my favourite things, pink and gold intercept, you know there’s going to be a love that lasts a lifetime. I have been swooning over rose gold everything for years, and though I’ve tried, I never quite perfected the colour on my mane – until now!

Some of you may have noticed my hair has been getting darker and darker lately, a decision I’ve made in light of the ridiculous amount of breakage and damage bleaching for 10 years straight has caused. I just want to give my hair a little break, you know? So, I consulted with Jaymi at Good Day Hair (aka pastel goddess of the world) and together we came up with a multi-step plan to get my hair back to a healthy state, without losing my pastel.

dsc_6129

dsc_6143

First we needed to break up the root line Jaymi added a bit of darker colour about halfway down my hair to an ombre affect, then highlighted throughout to create a more natural blonde. In all honestly, she did an amazing job, but I just didn’t feel like me without the pastel! So a few weeks later I headed back to Good Day and we came up with this masterpiece- a peachy rose gold ombre that didn’t involve any bleaching at all! Only colour deposits!

I’m so over the moon with the results – it’s the perfect middle ground until I can bleach again. For the next little while we’ll just be highlighting and adding fun colours on top, and if this attempt is any indication, it’s going to be AWESOME!

Thanks again to my girl Jaymi and Good Day Hair Shop!

I can’t believe how quickly it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I’m slowly starting on my shopping and my home decor scheme (everyone has a scheme, right?) but most importantly I’m locking down my holiday look!

December and January are the one time of year when everyone can agree there is no such thing as “too much sparkle,” which means I feel right at home throughout the season! As soon as Halloween has passed, I’m ready to start dripping everything I own in tinsel and jewels, complimented by silky fabrics and lots of “winter pink.” Of course, my “theme” shifts from year to year, and this year I’ve settled on Glittery Glam!

Inspired by Edward Scissorhands and Betty Draper, I put this look together in my mind long before it came to fruition. Like months ago. With the help of some of my favourite online shops and the stacked new Inspired Beauty department at Rexall, all of my pink Christmas, party prom queen dreams came true. I scooped up this silky pink onesie from Choies and it paired perfectly with my gilded Charlotte Mills accessories. Topped off with glittering Leah Alexandra jewels from #shopRAOP, all that was left to complete the look was makeup!

When it comes to beauty, I look for two things: pretty packaging and convenience. Rexall’s new inspired Beauty Department covers both bases, and it doesn’t hurt that they have a candy aisle to stop in as well!

To put together this holiday cat eye and blush pink combo, I picked up NYX Liquid Crystal liner and Milani eyeshadow in “Bella Chiffon” for my eyes, NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator and Milani Powder Blush in “Tea Rose” for skin, and finally CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick in “Pink Paws” for lips. I used the shadow for added highlights on my nose and cheekbones to get that extra snowy glow.

Are you ready to start rocking around the Christmas tree?
