When packing for Nice I was determined to bring only classy, ladylike pieces. I didn’t even want to give myself the option of looking lazy (like I do working from home most days I’m afraid), and so I ended up with a handful of fun new outfit shoots and a lot of blisters from wearing heels almost constantly.

This pairing from my favourite local boutique CONVEY was the perfect intersection between dressed up and casual comfort while I was away, and I couldn’t get enough of the soft suede shorts with this amazing blush Georgia Alice number. I’m not generally an “off the shoulder type” (that’s a thing, right?) but this piece is the perfect way to try out the look, and I’m definitely hooked!

I’ve been to macaron shops all over the world, in fact I seldom travel without finding a way to hunt at least one down wherever I go. Though I’ve had more than enough delicious experiences in my travels, nothing fully compares to the luxury and wonder of Ladurée, especially the classic locations in France itself.

The first time I visited a real life Ladurée it was in New York, and after that I was able to stop by one of the oldest locations in Paris. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I hopped on the train to Cannes (almost exclusively to visit the Ladurée there) a few weeks ago during the #RAOPnicetrip, but as per usual, this amazing French patisserie lived up to its legacy.

I think my favourite part about this location was the quietness- for once there was no insane line of people fighting over macarons and ribbon colours. It was so calm in the shop that I was actually able to admire all the gorgeous details, like the hand painted cloud ceiling and golden chandeliers. And don’t forget the treats of course! With seasonal macaron flavours like cherry blossom, Marie-Antoinette tea, and melon in the case, I didn’t stand a chance!

There are a few styles of clothing I’m always terrified to wear, despite my generally carefree attitude in the wardrobe department. Maxi dresses, super baggy boyfriend jeans, and overly doll-like dresses are all on the list, but wide leg pants and culottes sit right at the top.

You know how they say “When in France”? Well, the word ‘culotte’ itself is in fact a French word, and there was something so perfectly Cote D’azur about this striped Lucy Mcintosh pair from CONVEY. Going against my “if you don’t wear it at home you won’t on vacation” philosophy, I tried them on, and guess what? They were super cute! Into the suitcase they went, and I wore them multiple times traipsing around French balconies and feasting on fresh seafood.

The lesson? No more weird fashion rules for me.

Ps. every single apartment in Nice has views like these… How amazing is that to wake up to?!

And so the long slew of #RAOPnicetrip related posts begins! I figured it only made sense to start with one of my favourite new outfits in my favourite part of town, Old Nice. A magical maze of tiny winding streets, cobblestone roads, and faded peach rooftops, this neighbourhood is filled with idyllic old French charm. Grab a slice of pizza from a tiny stand in a dark alley, try a mountain of fresh gelato from Fenocchio, or make your way up the hill at the far end of town for the most enchanting sunset views. Just steps away from the sea, and home to a truly fantastic farmers market (which occasionally switches to glittering gold antiques), the possibilities here are endless, and I spent most of my vacation attempting to navigate the petite streets.

As for the outfit, I fell hard for this two piece ensemble by Lovers + Friends, and it couldn’t have fit better with the bright blue skies and sun-washed walls of Vielle Ville!

Stay tuned for more Cote D’azur magic coming soon!

Dress Up

Here in Toronto things can get quite desolate outfit-wise without the right variety of coats in your closet. There are only about two months a year where we don’t have to wear a coat or jacket, so without a diverse range you can easily get into a “same thing every day” outfit slump. Trust me, it’s not fun.

It probably comes as no surprise that I have a special place in my heart for pink coats. Whereas most people *might* add a “pop” of colour to their outerwear repertoire, I strive to have a different shade of pink jacket for every day of the week and every single season. When I first saw this hot pink cocoon number on the J Crew website before Christmas I was totally smitten. Unfortunately I barely had time to grab my wallet before it was completely sold out in every shade.

*Tear*

A few weeks ago I was out for lunch with Paige (aka Studio Bicyclette) and the dream pink coat came up in conversation. She mentioned she’d kept her eyes out for it on Ebay, and on a total whim I went home and checked myself. That’s when my pink coat miracle occurred- there was one size two available, and thanks to a tiny blue stain it was actually less expensive than it had been in stores. I instantly jumped on it, and the rest is, well, evident in these pictures.

The best part? The alleged “blue dot” is completely invisible- we seriously can’t even find it! Maybe I should invest in some lottery tickets this month too? I’m feeling lucky…
