Dear DiaryDress Up

I love dressing up, but there’s always something to be said for simple, clean, comfortable outfits, especially this time of year. I was thrilled to hear about Frank + Oak’s new womenswear line, and as expected it ended up being the perfect collection of easy breezy basics.

Since picking my outfit was so straightforward we decided to mix things up with our photo technique. We had the pleasure of attending Huawei’s amazing space-themed Nova Plus launch party this past week, and between meeting Chris Hadfield and sipping smoking cocktails it was truly a night to remember. One of our biggest take aways was learning about the amazing photo quality this phone has, and since we had one to test out for the week, we decided to try using the phone against our usual DSLR for these outfit snaps.

Amazing both indoors and out, the Huawei camera really proved to be a pleasant surprise, especially since no one on our team has any familiarity with Android phones. Affordable, fast, and loaded with great filters and editing tools, this little number is a great option for budding Instagrammers, though it took a lot of getting used to for us Apple users!

Can you spot the difference in the photo set?

Okay, back to the outfit:

I’m not usually one for the Canadian tuxedo, but this season I can’t get enough of this dreamy double denim look. Complete with a muted blush sweatshirt and simple clog boots, this look is so simple it’s almost lazy, but thanks to great design and fabric quality it still looks put together.

Frank + Oak, the women of the world rejoice!

Dress Up

I’m definitely not one of those “Fall People” who can’t get enough of this season’s chilly air and cozy knits, but even I can admit the beauty of a forest full of trees bursting with Autumn colour. When my boyfriend and his roomie invited me to the Badlands on Thanksgiving weekend I jumped at the opportunity to get out of the city, and though we couldn’t actually get into the park area (it’s currently closed) I totally fell for Fall!

Somewhere between the apple farm and the long drive down winding country roads we stopped to snap some outfit photos, and it turns out endless forests of golden leaves make for a really good backdrop!

Dress Up

All summer I dreaded the day I’d have to return to wearing pants over shorts, long sleeves over tank tops and tights with my dresses, but now that the season is starting to shift I find myself surprisingly, well, excited!

One of the things that got me thinking chilly weather might not be such a bad thing was shopping at Negarin while I was in LA last month. My favourite store on the Abbott Kinney strip, this shop is always bursting with pastel magic, and everything from their coats to sunglasses is just gorgeous. I walked out with a little pink dress (shown in my red carpet look), a white silk bow blouse, and the best pink trousers ever. Sadly I couldn’t actually wear my new treasures in Cali because it was too warm, but when the brisk wind came in here in Toronto I knew my time had come. Topped off with dainty jewels, black mules, and a cute vegan bucket bag from Harvey’s, it was the perfect transitional look!

Dear DiaryDress Up

To say FW16 Toronto Fashion Week was a whirlwind is an understatement. We ran in high heels through pouring rain, probably took 20 last-minute Uber rides to make it to shows, and even got placed in the coveted front row once or twice.

We’ve been to TFW shows in the past, but this season was the first time we really truly felt like a part of the chaos. We were at the tents every single day and I even got to spend some time behind the scenes at a Fashion Magazine shoot featuring looks from the shows. Below you’ll find some snaps from the shoot, plus team RAOP’s favourite looks from the FW2016 shows!

Mackage // Embellished Knees

Sparkly knees? Yes please! We can wait to bedazzle all of our pants for next season.

Narces // Lace & Sparkle

Romantic silhouettes and ladylike touches graced the Narces collection- you might say we fell in love.

Helder Diego // Blush Grunge

If ballerinas decided to get edgy, their outfits would likely mirror the magic at Helder Diego. We especially adored the blush leather harnesses!

Hayley Elsaesser // Bold Pop Prints

Hayley wins our hearts every season without fail, and her Big Lebowski-inspired collection this season was no exception. One of each please!

Hilary MacMillan // Soft Pinks

Nobody showcased our favourite shade quite like Hilary MacMillan, and from fluffy pink furs to flowing pink dresses, the entire presentation was pink perfection.
