We’re always busy dreaming up projects here at the Pastel Palace, but we wouldn’t be able to pull it off without a few very special essentials. Sorry to disappoint, but sadly even we don’t operate simply on fairy dust and magic around here!
Without further ado, here’s a list of our studio must-haves. At face value they might seem a little, well, unexciting, but each item is totally necessary for creating all kinds of pastel masterpieces!
1. Backgrounds:
We use anything from painted wood panels and slabs of marble, to wrapping paper and poster board to create the ideal backdrop for our shoots. These backgrounds let us transform the studio and add perfect touches of pastel to every flatlay. If you can’t track down the exact shade you’re craving, simply pick up some paint samples at your local hardware store and paint a board your custom shade.
2. iPhone with #FidoRoam plan:
Because we’re often on the go, we need to make sure that it’s still business as usual when we’re taking off to exciting destinations. After all, what’s Instagram without spur of the moment snaps? We’re super lucky to have incredibly flexible phone plans with Fido, and thanks to #FidoRoam, we’re able to have the same coverage on our iPhones no matter where we are!
3. Washi Tape:
Washi tape is truly a stylist’s secret weapon. We use it to hang print, steady backdrops, stop a lipstick from rolling out of the frame… you name it. It’s super handy, plus it comes in SO many cute colours and patterns (currently crushing on the swan print). We can honestly never get enough here at HQ!
4. Fast & reliable WIFI:
#RAOPxFido is truly a partnership that we would not be able to live without! We’re always on the web; whether we’re updating the blog, planning adventures or sending emails, so fast and reliable wifi is super important. Fido not only hooked us up with an amazing plan, but also with a crazy cute custom modem featuring our photos!
5. Fun props!
Over the years we’ve collected so many treasures and goodies, and they all come together in the studio, one way or another. From diamond prisms to disco balls to piñatas, they’re the perfect finishing touch on any photoshoot.
