Dress UpI'll Follow You Anywhere

Most people know about the legendary Beverly Hills Hotel, but if you’re anything like me you had no idea they had a cozy little sister hotel further into the hills.

After a busy morning spent snapping photos and driving our Expedia.ca convertible around the neighbourhood, we pulled into Hotel Belair‘s driveway to a very eager valet team, and a lush garden filled with the prettiest of tropical plants. We were lucky enough to be invited for afternoon tea, and after stuffing ourselves with tiny sandwiches and Darjeeling we wandered for ages exploring the gorgeous grounds.

Unlike the Beverly Hills Hotel (post on that coming soon too!) this little pink wonder is quiet, tranquil, and quite truly a perfect escape.

I’ve been really good about not splurging lately, even though my natural instinct is and always has been to spend without much restraint (I’m working on getting my finances in order- but more on that later!) Every so often though, there’s an item so special that I just can’t bear to walk away, and Kate Spade’s flamingo collection was just the sort of bait that hooks this pastel fish without fail.

When I spotted this peachy silk top at Shine PR’s Kate Spade shopping event a few weeks ago, it was love at first sight. I practically snatched the last one off the shelf, holding it close to me for an hour while I ate specialty marshmallows and tried to talk myself out of trying it on. Of course the marshmallow plan only lasted so long, and soon enough I was in the fitting room snapping selfies in what had already become my new favourite top. As soon as I slipped it over my head, I knew there was no way it wasn’t coming home with me. Savings and financial responsibilities aside, sometimes you just have to say yes to the flamingo.

Oh and full disclosure: I’ve barely taken it off since. A worthy investment? I think so!

I spent my weekend out of town at a wedding, but when Jean Machine sent me an email asking if I’d like to check out Field Trip music festival in a brand new outfit, I really couldn’t refuse now could I?

After a bit of reworking, I was able to keep Sunday evening open for the festival, and though it was rainy out, it was still such a treat to wander the grounds and take in all of the different music drifting through the air at the same time. Highlights included Marina and The Diamonds (she wore a massive glittery cherry headband!), the wood oven pizzas, Jordan De Ruiter’s flower crowns, and the cute little fruit stand that was serving chunks of watermelon with pastel drink umbrella toppers.

When it came to picking out my outfit, I’ll admit I was a bit lost. The last time I attended a music festival I was a very excited 16 years old walking into an all-rock lineup with a name that eludes me these days. Back then, I wore a band t-shirt and denim cut offs, and though I’m sure that would’ve worked just fine this past weekend, I couldn’t help but want to feel a little bit more grown up (I know, boring right?)

In the end I chose a super soft pair of white ripped jeans by Just Black, and a neon pink silky top by Naked Zebra. Accessorized with simple black sandals, a small cross body purse, and a wide brimmed hat, I was perfectly outfitted to dance the night away- even if I spent most of the time sitting down eating snacks!

I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a massive fan of Sex and the City. Let’s be honest- when you’re a single woman living in an urban setting and you’re feeling confused and lost and crazy overwhelmed, there is nothing more comforting than a few hours spent with Charlotte, Miranda, Carrie, and Samantha. Yes, it’s just a TV show with fictional characters, but it’s smart, witty, and over the years it has helped me through numerous breakups, provided expert dating advice, and helped me justify my terrible spending habits (okay maybe that last one is more of a negative side effect…)

Though I love all four of the characters, Samantha has always been my favourite. Unapologetic, confident, and honest, I’ve been channelling her bold ways more and more as I get older, and I have to say it’s been a nice change of pace.

When I saw Clashist’s epic “Samantha Jones Powersuit” tee on Instagram I knew it had to be mine. What better summer essential than a pink t-shirt covered in Sam Jones? Paired with pastel jeans and bold sunnies, this might just be my new favourite warm weather go-to.
