A Pastel BabyDear Diary

For a long time I didn’t know what everyone was talking about with this “nesting” business. I wanted to be out having fun and feeling like a regular person, not at home darning socks! “I’m a modern woman!” I thought, “I don’t need to nest!”

Then the third trimester hit.

Turns out nesting is a very real, hormone-triggered concept and though it strikes everyone at different times, I don’t think there’s much anyone can do to avoid it completely, especially as labour approcahes. Feeling safe, clean and comfy at home is suddenly at the very top of my priority list right now – it’s my safe place after all, and soon to be the safe place for my baby too. With winter in full swing I’ve been spending more time indoors, and I can’t tell you how many home projects I’ve hammered through the past few weeks after putting them off for ages. #HeaveninHighPark is starting to feel so ready for our new addition, and even the nursery is totally set up (reveal coming so soon on one of my very favourite websites!)

There are two things I can’t deny about my time waiting for baby, especially now that the third trimester has hit: one, cleanliness is key, and two, toxins are terrifying. My definition of clean has reached new heights, and with baby on the way I’ve really started questioning the cleanliness of everything in my life when it comes to chemicals and toxins. I have swapped out everything from body products to my laundry detergent for cleaner, natural options, and it has really helped make my nest feel like a safer place for baby to land.

A classic brand that I always turn too, Mrs. Meyers Clean Day is not only a cleaner way to keep your home germ-free, but the scents are always super delicious yet soft enough that they don’t cause those oh-so-annoying pregnancy headaches in my experience! Currently obsessed with the Apple Cider Dish Soap. They make everything from toilet cleaner to laundry detergent (my laundry room is currently stocked with lavender laundry detergent, dryer sheets and fabric softener, and their products have never let me down once. Can’t wait to get my hands on their baby detergent to try next!

I have a hard time with natural toothpaste and tooth products because I don’t like the taste of baking soda, but coconut oil? Now that I can get behind! Dr. Ginger’s products taste delicious, work super well (my dentist has given me only good news since using them), and they even make eco-friendly natural whitening pens which is not something I’ve ever seen before.

I’ve been into the idea of clean skincare for years, mixing lots of amazing natural products into my daily regimen but still clinging to those last few NOT clean products too. This pregnancy finally gave me the push I needed to go all-natural, all the time. Que Odacite , a beautifully crafted brand hailing from California, Odacite was created by a woman who used her cancer diagnosis to clean out everything in her life, especially what she put on her skin. The line is totally customizable with tons of serums you can blend and use for different problem areas, and it’s vegan, cruelty free, certified organic too. I’ve been especially into Odacite Rose + Neroli Hydra-Vitalizing Treatment Mist , Odacite Pure Elements Serums, and the Rose quartz Gua Sha (you can get a lesson on this awesome tool at our favourite Odacite retailer, The Detox Market!)

When I saw Dalish Cosmetics on the shelf at a local all-natural shop I couldn’t believe I had never heard of the brand! Created in a kitchen right here in Toronto, this collection is natural beauty at its best – great price point, locally crafted, cruelty free, and so cute! Their mascara is one of the best natural formulas I’ve ever tried, and the concealer works wonders too!

I did a lot of travel to some very hot places earlier this year, and I have to say I will always and forever Trust The Bum – Sun Bum that is! This might be the natural product line I’ve used the longest in my life, and I don’t think I’ll ever even bother with other options because I find it works so well and smells so good. I can’t wait to get stocked up on the even cleaner Baby Bum product line for Little Pearl’s first vacation (how soon is too soon to start?!)

Sometimes your all-natural routine needs to have a bit of fun, and Anese co. is definitely proof that products that are good for you don’t have to look bad on your countertop. Never tested on animals, made in the USA, and formulated with lots of amazing plant-based ingredients, each product has full transparency listed right on the site about what is inside the bottle. Some of my favourites lately have been Have you seen my underwear? Watermelon Booty Oil (works great on the belly too!) and Fuck Bad Vibes Hydrating Hair + Body Elixir.

Oh so Pretty

I have a hard time committing to a certain cosmetic collections, and always end up using a big mixed bag of products and potions on my skin. Thanks to our line of work, we’re constantly trying new brands and the most recent creations on the market, but this past month we fell in love with a brand and a formula that has stood the test of time.

Roger & Gallet has been “Distilling happiness since 1862” – inspired by ancient remedies and the avante-garde attitude of Paris, this brand is luxury-meets-apothecary traditions. Using 95% natural ingredients and precious essences, each and every Roger & Gallet product is designed to make people happy, from formula to scent, and after trying out their new skincare line Aura Mirabilis, we were just that.

Aura Mirabilis is a 4 piece beauty routine that’s formulated with 18 distilled and officinal plants for truly magical results. Inspired by “Aqua Mirabilis”, a powerful natural remedy created by Monks 300 years ago that could be drunk or applied to the skin for numerous healing properties, this line is a new twist on old medicine, and we’ve been loving the effect it’s had on our skin so far! Used by famous leaders and royalty for centuries, this skincare is literally fit for a queen. Newly available at Sephora, this line starts at $25 and it’s worth every penny.

Scroll down for the step-by-step routine, and GIVEAWAY details too!

Oh so Pretty

Almost everyone I’ve spoken to agrees 2016 was a garbage year, and I’m honestly so excited to kick off a fresh new set of 365 days. True, it’s been the New Year for a few days now, but since I decided to get a head start on my life makeover (which you can read about here) I decided to take a little break before getting into the superficial stuff. Like hair.

A new year almost always means a new look for me, so I started with my hair. As I mentioned, I’m taking a break from bleaching, but that doesn’t mean I can’t keep having fun with my locks! I headed back to Jaymi at Good Day Hairshop for a whole wack of highlights and dreamy golden colour to prep for my adventures in LA. Outfit-wise I scooped up the COOLEST Sunday Somewhere sunglasses from the new Her Majesty’s Pleasure Boutique, the perfect forest green jumbo tote from The Stowe and some incredible new essentials from (yes, a was an essential!)

I’ve also been big into building up my tattoo collection over the past month, thanks to the help of the oh so talented Alex Royce Tattoo. This guy seriously makes stick n’ pokes so painless you could take a nap, and I can’t stop going back! In the span of two weeks I got an orca whale (my all-time favourite animal), a gem, and a pearl in an oyster. I couldn’t love them more.

And finally, speaking of love and tattoos, have you noticed my brows lately?! I had the absolute pleasure of connecting with Nicole of BrowsxBianca, and after two appointments she had microbladed me to my best brow dreams. I’m not going to lie – it HURT, like a lot, but not having to draw in my brows every day has been well worth two hours of discomfort, and I couldn’t be happier with the improvement.

Interested in trying microblading but always thought it was too expensive? Nicole and I have a little surprise for you guys! Simply mention you heard about her from me and you’ll get 25% OFF from now until February 15th! How’s that for a great kick off to 2017 and say goodbye to 2016?

Oh so Pretty

Okay, so we’ve put together a lot of fun gift guides this year, but we thought why not throw one last list together featuring all our favourite pretty little things (aka. beauty products, candles, and things that generally smell delicious). They make great stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, and add ons to those gifts that are missing that one last special thing.

From candles to mascara, this guide is for those who covet the finer things in life and delight in details!

Herbivore Botanicals // All natural, cruelty-free, and full of magical powers, this brand uses some of our favourite ingredients like coconut and rose to make truly dreamy bath, body, and skincare products.

Annabelle // Colourful and fun, this cosmetics line is super affordable and perfect for filling spaces in stockings. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free, which makes it a must on our list.

Linneas Lights // I swear these are the strongest smelling candles on the face of the planet. They also come in delightful holiday scents like “Golden Plum” and “Pepperberry” which we can’t get enough of in the office right now.

Bite Beauty
This lip-specific brand opened a shop down the street a few months back and we seriously can’t get enough. Their Christmas packaging is almost too pretty too open, and all of their products are technically edible they’re so natural!

Smith and Cult // We’ve had a crush on Smith and Cult’s gorgeous nail polish collection for ages, and now that they’ve added eye makeup and lipgloss to the list we’re 100% hooked. Bonus points for all the glittering gold on the packaging!

Tocca // “I have too many candles” said no one EVER. Tocca makes great little minis in seemingly endless scents that will cover everyone left on your list.

Dress UpOh so Pretty

I can’t believe how quickly it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I’m slowly starting on my shopping and my home decor scheme (everyone has a scheme, right?) but most importantly I’m locking down my holiday look!

December and January are the one time of year when everyone can agree there is no such thing as “too much sparkle,” which means I feel right at home throughout the season! As soon as Halloween has passed, I’m ready to start dripping everything I own in tinsel and jewels, complimented by silky fabrics and lots of “winter pink.” Of course, my “theme” shifts from year to year, and this year I’ve settled on Glittery Glam!

Inspired by Edward Scissorhands and Betty Draper, I put this look together in my mind long before it came to fruition. Like months ago. With the help of some of my favourite online shops and the stacked new Inspired Beauty department at Rexall, all of my pink Christmas, party prom queen dreams came true. I scooped up this silky pink onesie from Choies and it paired perfectly with my gilded Charlotte Mills accessories. Topped off with glittering Leah Alexandra jewels from #shopRAOP, all that was left to complete the look was makeup!

When it comes to beauty, I look for two things: pretty packaging and convenience. Rexall’s new inspired Beauty Department covers both bases, and it doesn’t hurt that they have a candy aisle to stop in as well!

To put together this holiday cat eye and blush pink combo, I picked up NYX Liquid Crystal liner and Milani eyeshadow in “Bella Chiffon” for my eyes, NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator and Milani Powder Blush in “Tea Rose” for skin, and finally CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick in “Pink Paws” for lips. I used the shadow for added highlights on my nose and cheekbones to get that extra snowy glow.

Are you ready to start rocking around the Christmas tree?
